Deactivation
Deactivation is a user-initiated, reversible pause. Think of it as going dormant β your data is preserved exactly as-is, you just won't appear on the platform until you come back.
How to deactivate
Go to Profile β Danger Zone β Deactivate Account. You'll be asked to confirm and an OTP will be sent to your email. Once verified, your account deactivates and you're logged out immediately.
What happens when you deactivate
Profile hidden
Your profile is no longer visible to other users on the platform.
Support offers paused
Any open support offers you have are paused and removed from the marketplace. They are restored automatically when you reactivate.
Active support plans continue
Any active support plans already in progress continue normally on both sides. Supporters can still collect repayments. You still owe what you owe.
Data intact
Everything β support plans, transactions, Community+ posts, Susu records, Funds, trust history β is preserved exactly as it was.
Email confirmation
You receive an email confirming the deactivation, with instructions on how to reactivate.
Debt blockers β when you can't deactivate
To protect other users, deactivation is blocked if you have any unresolved financial obligations:
| Blocker | Why | How to resolve |
|---|---|---|
| Active or overdue support plan (as request supporter) | You owe money to a give supporter. | Repay the outstanding balance. |
| Defaulted support plan (as request supporter) | You have an unresolved default. | Settle the defaulted balance with your give supporter. |
| Active support plan (as give supporter) | A request supporter owes you money β you need to be reachable. | Wait until all support plans you funded are repaid or completed. |
| Active Susu cycle | Your group is counting on your contributions. | Complete the current Susu cycle. |
| Live Fund (as owner) | Backers' money is in your Fund. | Collect or cancel your Fund first. |
| Outstanding Fund returns (as backer) | A request supporter still owes you returns. | Wait until all returns are paid out. |
How to reactivate
Simply log in with your existing credentials. You'll land on a deactivation screen with a single Reactivate My Account button. One click β your account is immediately restored, support offers are re-opened, and everything picks up exactly where you left off.
Account Deletion
Deletion is permanent and irreversible after a 30-day grace window. It requires deactivation first β this two-step design is intentional to prevent accidental deletion.
The two-step process
Deactivate first
Go to Profile β Danger Zone β Deactivate. Your account goes dormant. This is reversible.
Request deletion
After deactivating, log back in. On the deactivation screen you'll see a "Delete My Account" option. Request deletion from there. An OTP is required to confirm.
30-day grace period
Your account is marked "Pending Deletion." You can cancel any time within 30 days by logging in again and cancelling. Your wallet must be zero to proceed.
Permanent deletion
After 30 days, the deletion runs automatically. Your name is anonymised to "Deleted User" across all records. You cannot reverse this.
Additional blockers for deletion
Everything that blocks deactivation also blocks deletion, plus:
| Additional blocker | Why | How to resolve |
|---|---|---|
| Wallet balance > β¦0 | Funds would be lost permanently. | Withdraw your full balance to a bank account first. |
| Open support offers with held funds | Escrow funds belong to you β they must be released. | Close all open support offers to release held funds back to your wallet, then withdraw. |
What happens to your data after deletion
Name anonymised
Your name is replaced with "Deleted User" on all records β posts, comments, support plan history, transaction logs.
Financial records retained
Wallet transactions, support plan records, and repayment history are kept for legal and audit purposes in line with our Privacy Policy (Β§7 β Data Retention). This is required by Nigerian financial regulations.
Community posts kept
Your community posts remain visible (as "Deleted User") since other users may have relied on or responded to them.
Login credentials destroyed
Email, password hash, phone number, NIN hash, and all PII are permanently deleted. The account cannot be recovered.

Redaction policy
Third-party sensitive data is redacted in both formats to protect other users' privacy:

Identity Verification (OTP)
Sensitive account actions require a one-time code (OTP) sent to your registered email address. This is Urgent2K's second-factor verification β ensuring that even if someone has your password, they can't take irreversible actions without access to your inbox.
| Action | OTP required? | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Deactivate account | Yes | Irreversible short-term β causes service disruption |
| Request account deletion | Yes | Permanent after 30 days β highest-risk action |
| Download data (JSON or PDF) | Yes | Sensitive personal data export β prevents unauthorised access |
| Change email address | Yes (sent to new email) | Prevents account takeover via email change |
| Reactivate account | No | You just logged in β that's sufficient verification |
| Cancel deletion | No | Restorative action β no risk |

Admin Suspension
Suspension is different from deactivation β it is initiated by Urgent2K administrators, not by you. It is used when an account violates platform terms of service, is under investigation, or requires immediate restriction.
| Aspect | Deactivation (self) | Suspension (admin) |
|---|---|---|
| Who triggers it | You | Urgent2K admin |
